I was privileged to attend a workshop in the new database the Ministry of Health and Social Services will use for all of its HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) Sites. The system is known as EPMS and is based on the FileMaker computer software. I learnt from a fellow participant from the Otjzondjupa region that the system covers clinical data of HIV patients – such as viral load, CD4 cell count, current HAART regimen – in addition to HCT data.
The aim of the workshop was to establish the relationship between the paper registers of HCT and the database. The training centered on avoiding pitfalls in HCT data capture, such as contradictions in the data for a client or couple who attended HCT.
